ABOUT CRAIG
Craig Walstead is a local, national and international music competition winner and has performed in the United States as well as Europe. His compositions have been performed in Austria, Italy and in the U.S. In 2013, at the age of 18, Craig's composition, Picture Study for String Quartet and Percussion 'Harmony of Bells', was performed by Seattle Symphony musicians in a chamber concert at Benaroya Hall in Seattle Wa.
He is also a Graduate of the Seattle Symphony's Young Composers Workshop Program. Craig studied piano and music composition in Florence Italy at the Luigi Cheribini Conservitory of Music through the Language And Music For Life organization (LAMFL) . In 2017 Craig competed in the Golden Key Music Festival Composition Competition and Placed 2nd in the national division and 3rd place in the international division in his age category.
Although craig has a keen interest in composition his greatest passion is performance and has received recognition for it too. In 2012 Craig was awarded an honorable mention in the Gig Harbor Music Teachers Association Young Artists Competition. He has also studied injury preventive piano technique with the Golandsky Piano Institute at Princeton University, Berkeley California and at Lewis And Clark Collage in Portland Oregon and continues to pursue education through the Institute. Craigs' teachers include: Dr. Gregory Youtz, Dr. Samuel Jones, William Godfree, Dr. Rob Hutchinson, Dr. Tanya Stambuk and Rustem Kudoyarov.
Craig has attended and performed in music festivals in the U.S. and Europe. He has also performed in master classes with the following teachers: professor Stephen möller in Vienna Austria and professor Deborah Cleaver in Portland Oregon.
While mainly teaching residents of the greater Gig Harbor/Tacoma area, Craig has also taught students from around the world (via Zoom) including Australia, Singapore, Thailand, India, Portugal, France, Germany, Spain and across the united states.
